
Under the vibrant atmosphere of the Lay’s RePlay Field at Safe-Hub Tembisa, two young footballers from township roots etched their names into a story of pure possibility today. In a nail-biting finale to the Tembisa RePlay World Cup League, these players being symbols of grit, discipline, and unyielding commitment were selected for a once-in-a-lifetime trip overseas to soak in international football culture and witness a top-tier match live.
The selected male Themba (15) and female Omolemo (14) participants, both from the humble township of Tembisa, have shown remarkable dedication through their journey at Safe-Hub since 2021. The male participant, an emerging goalkeeping talent, trains with relentless focus as he works toward his dream of playing professionally. The female participant, known for her discipline and leadership, balances school and sport while encouraging younger teammates through the values of teamwork and integrity. “Growing up in the township comes with real challenges, but both young athletes continue to rise above adversity with resilience, strength and unwavering dedication,” said Coach Thulani Ngwenya.
The Tembisa RePlay League, delivered through Safe-Hub Tembisa as its beating heart and community anchor, unfolded from 6 February to 7 March. This purpose-led platform brought together 28 teams, 160 dedicated young participants, and over 100 hours of football that built skills, bonds and dreams. Safe-Hub Tembisa stands as the true home of the league, a safe space where township talent thrives in a structured environment of opportunity and inclusion.
Today’s finals marked the emotional peak. Amid cheers from families, teammates, and the community, football legend Lucas Radebe stepped onto the pitch at Safe-Hub Tembisa. With warmth and pride, he announced the two standout players and handed over the gleaming trophy and medals.
